ADI Training Programme

The ADI training programme has been set up to include all the recommended books
you will need to complete your training and will also give you all the necessary
information to start your new career as a qualified DSA ADI (Car).
Your training will be in three separate parts:

Part One: Theory and Hazard Perception

  • You must complete the structured Home Study course.
  • You will learn the essential driving and teaching theory prior to moving on
    to the practical training.
  • We will send you all the necessary training material as part of your course fee.
  • This will contain DSA recommended books together with a visual aid which
you will use for both the
  • Part Three ability test and to teach your own pupils thereafter.
You must work through the guides methodically.
Your Driving Instructor Trainer (DIT) Instructor will
offer advice by either phone or email during your Part One training.

Part Two: Driving Ability.

  • You will receive a minimum of 20 hours driving sessions in preparation for the
    Part Two driving test.
In the unlikely event that you require more than the standard 20 hours,
this can be arranged.  This would incur extra charges at D.I.T. standard rates.
  • Your DIT Instructor will work with you on a ONE-2-ONE training basis.
This is where some of the larger 'National' training establishments will differ. With some
other companies, your training time for both Parts two and three is 'shared' with one or
even two more candidates in the car at once. Thus your training hours are split between drivers. This is one of the many reasons why many Potential Driving Instructors (PDIs)
fail at the third attempt for Parts two and three.
  • Your DIT Instructor will take you through all the 'core competencies' so
that your are fully prepared for the high standard required for the Part Two
    driving test.
  • This will also be a core building block for you to 'call on' once you have
qualified, once you're trained up to this high standard, it will be easy to
identify faults by your pupils, because if you are not doing it the way
YOU would do it, it's a fault.

Part Three:  Test of Instructional Ability.

  • There are 20 x two hour instructing sessions
(again, on a ONE-2-ONE basis with your DIT Instuctor in-car)
to be completed to prepare you for the Part Three test and beyond.
In the unlikely event that you require more than the obligatory 40 hours, this can be
arranged.
This would incur extra charges at D.I.T. standard rates.
  • Your Part Three training sessions will take the form of you the Potential Driving Instructor (PDI) sitting in the passenger seat, with your D.I.T. Instructor in the driving seat.
  • You will learn how to give training briefings to the very exact Part Three
    standard.
  • Once you have mastered this, you will be expected to deliver the briefings
back to your Instructor; who will 'role play' the part of a partly-trained student
    with various levels of ability.
  • Sit-in opportunity on a real driving lesson, watch an ADI in action.

This is the most important part of your training for two reasons:

1. Fully prepare you for your Part Three Test of Instructional Ability.
2. Give you the main building block to enable you to teach learner drivers,
    once you have qualified.

We will be with you at each and every step of the way through your training programme.
Many of you will find this level of learning quite involved. However, you will not be alone.
Your DIT Instructor will make time for you be that during your scheduled lesson time or outside of those hours. You will get to know your Instructor which should enable you
to feel free to contact them at any point throughout your programme.
Remember - we are only a phone call away. This is YOUR training for YOUR new career.
Your DIT will not leave you alone to 'muddle' through.

This is what we pride ourselves on - TOTAL COMMITMENT to YOU.
